Chinese automaker BYD released the YangWang U8, a luxury electric SUV featuring an emergency floating mode designed for flood survival. When the vehicle enters deep water it automatically seals the cabin and raises its suspension, allowing it to float safely for up to 30 minutes without sinking. The system relies on a quad-motor platform where each wheel operates independently, propelling the floating car forward at around three kilometres per hour and even allowing it to perform full tank-style turns to navigate toward dry land. The car can also automatically open its sunroof to provide an emergency escape route for passengers. It is one of the most unusual safety features ever built into a production vehicle.
