Police Gun Down Two Suspected Kidnappers, Arrest Alleged Gang Leader in Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping, neutralizing two suspected kidnappers and arresting two others, including an alleged gang leader, during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation.
The suspects arrested were identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi and Mohammed Bello, while security operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, a single-barrel gun, β¦1.5 million suspected to be ransom proceeds, several mobile phones, and a black bag believed to be linked to the criminal operation.
According to the Police, the operation followed weeks of intensive investigation into the abduction of three individuals who were kidnapped on May 11, 2026, in the Ipojo area of Iperin, Atan-Ijebu, Ogun State.
The victims were reportedly released unharmed on May 14 after their captors received a ransom payment. Following their release, detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intensified efforts to identify and apprehend members of the gang responsible for the crime.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives stormed a suspected kidnappersβ hideout along the Ijebu-OdeβIbadan Road in the early hours of May 15.
Police sources disclosed that the suspects engaged officers in a gun battle immediately they sighted the approaching security team. The operatives responded with superior firepower, resulting in the death of two suspected gang members.
Other members of the criminal syndicate reportedly escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot injuries sustained during the exchange of fire.
Subsequent intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the alleged gang leader, Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, and another suspected member of the group, Mohammed Bello.
Security operatives also recovered additional exhibits believed to be connected to the kidnapping activities of the gang.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate.
Police authorities confirmed that all recovered items have been secured as exhibits, while investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the gangβs operations and ensure the prosecution of those arrested.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their courage, professionalism, and commitment to duty.
He reaffirmed the Commandβs determination to sustain the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes, assuring residents that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property across Ogun State.
